WHAT GOES INSIDE A BACKPACK

Tailored to the Population
We work with you to determine who the backpacks get distributed to and therefore what goes in them
Medical Supplies
As medical students, we work to advance public health by focusing on critical medical supplies that keep our clients healthy.
Essential Items
We carefully consider everyday items that our clients value most based on direct feedback across our entire nonprofit organization.
Resources
We understand that our work only goes so far, so in every backpack we include resources to help our clients navigate other services available to them within the community.
The Backpack Project of Los Angeles (TBP/LA) is a student run 501©(3) nonprofit organization that serves the homeless community in Los Angeles, California. We aim to engage with the Los Angeles homeless population, distribute homeless care backpacks, and raise awareness about the causes of homelessness. Founded in 2024, service, engagement, and awareness are all core tenets of The Backpack Project of Los Angeles' mission. These foundations are brought to life through a team of medical students and faculty at the David Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA who seek to drive long-term improvement within the homeless community in Los Angeles.
